Humans of Corner Kitchen (HOCK) – Margie Hall

Hi, my name is Margie Hall
How long have you worked for Corner Kitchen?
A year and a half
What is your favorite dish at Corner Kitchen?
At breakfast time I like the Latin American bowl. For lunch I like the Reuben or the kale Caesar salad. As for dinner the seafood dishes are always a favorite.
If you could travel anywhere in the world were would it be?
I’d love to go to a remote village in Africa and dance with the children.  It may sound silly but it’s always been my dream to do just that.
What life lessons has working in the service industry taught you?
Oh so very many.  Working in a kitchen has taught me patience, organization, and team work among many other things.
What has your most memorable experience with a guest been?
I have had so many great experiences with guests but I would say my favorite is when guests make it a point to stop by the open kitchen and thank us for making their meal and tell us how much they enjoyed it.
A story about a favorite regular…
When I think of Joe Bly so many memories come to mind.  A favorite I recall very well is when I brought my family in to eat dinner for the first time and he was there eating dinner.  When he found out I was there with my family he came upstairs to our table and met all of my family.  He proceeded to sing my praises and tell my family how much he enjoyed having me there at CK.  Before he returned to his dinner he sang us a sweet Irish blessing.  Mr. Bly has since passed but his memory lives on at CK.
Someone you would love to cook for and what would it be?
I would love to cook for my Grams.  She was a phenomenal chef. I would cook her Brunswick stew.  It is my favorite meal and no one can make it the way she did.  So I’d fix it for her and she could tell me what to do to make it taste just like hers.
Human(s) of Corner Kitchen is a continuing blog piece we run each month about a staff member in our restaurant.

Corner Kitchen is proud to be part of Asheville's vibrant food scene and...don't forget that parking is free in the village (and very abundant during dinner service)!

Hurricane Helene has devastated many parts of our beautiful city of Asheville including Historic Biltmore Village. We will have to rebuild Corner Kitchen and that will take at least 4-6 months. For the latest information, please visit our social media sites.
